Slavery

In Western Europe and the Americas, abolitionism was a historic movement that sought to End the Atlantic slave trade and set slaves free. Slave trade started in 1444 Lagos, Portugal where African slaves were sold publicly.

In 1833 Britain abolished slavery followed by French in 1848 and US in 1865. Slavery was often a feature of civilization and legal in most societies, but is now outlawed in all countries of the world, except as punishment for crime.

Is slavery wiped out completely from the face of the world? Nevertheless slavery is still there but in different forms. In country where majority of the people are whites, black or colored people are favored less. Same case goes in country where majority people are black, White and colored people are easy targets of harassment and intimidation.

China has built camps where they are holding millions of Muslims. These camps are reportedly operated outside the legal system, and many Muslims have reportedly been interned without trial and no charges have been levied against them.

Honor crimes are still very prevalent throughout the Muslim world, and in most Islamic countries women aren’t allowed to travel, either internationally or locally, without the permission or escort of a husband or male relative. In Pakistan, the testimony of one man is equal to that of two women.

On Thursday 24th of December 2020 Freshta Kohistani was murdered in northern province of Kapisa, Afghanistan. She was 29 years of age. Within two days, she is now second person to be assassinated just because she was raising her voice for violence against women. Who says slavery is abolished? 

One night a terrorist was shot dead and in the morning media reported that porn movies were found in his safe. Why then force your women to cover themselves from head to toe while you are allowed to watch porn? To display the image of sainthood that society had given him. Were not his family tortured and enslaved?

In India Data Intelligence Unit (DIU) has found that between 2014 and 2018, there have been 1,483 victims of acid attacks in the country. A total of 596 acid attack cases were reported in 2017 and 2018, with 623 victims falling prey, but data shows that only 149 people were charged in each year.

According to estimates, human trafficking in India may affect between 20 and 65 million people. Women and girls are trafficked within the country for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced marriage, especially in those areas where the sex ratio is highly skewed in favor of men.

The practice of dowry has been illegal in India since 1961, but it continues to thrive and campaigners say it leaves women vulnerable to domestic violence and even death. Paying and accepting dowry is a centuries-old South Asian tradition where the bride’s parents gift cash, clothes and jewelry to the groom’s family. Slavery at it’s worst.

India reports the highest total number of dowry deaths with 8,391 such deaths reported in 2010, meaning there are 1.4 deaths per 100,000 women. Female dowry deaths account for 40 to 50 percent of all female homicides recorded annually in India, representing a stable trend over the period 1999 to 2016.

Domestic violence. Most common domestic violence is physical abuse which includes actions such as pushing, restraining, slapping/punching, kicking, scratching, etc. Men trying to enslave women.
